Children’s Choir Leader Role Description and Person Specification
for All Hallows, Ipswich
Part-time, self-employed – £20/hour, up to 8 hrs/week (c.45 weeks/year)
Start date: February 2026
2 years, with the possibility of extending
We are looking to appoint a choir leader who is excellent at working with children to enable a fun, learning environment and to make connections through music with the Christian faith.
Overall Purpose: to set up and run a children’s choir aimed at primary school age children, for all abilities, and with a foundation of using music to help explore God, the Christian faith, and our own lives.
This will take the form of a weekly choir practice and performing a new song each month at our monthly All-Age Sunday Service.
The person selected will:
- Source appropriate and inspiring music and backing tracks (or accompany)
- Run a weekly choir rehearsal, which will include exploring the lyrics from a faith perspective
- Lead the choir in singing at a monthly All-Age Sunday morning service
- Work alongside the minister in choosing songs and themes to explore
- Go into schools and uniformed organisations to run workshops promoting the choir
- Be committed to helping the children have opportunity to grow musically and, work alongside the minster as they help the children to grow in their faith/understanding of God

Personal Specification –
Essential Qualities and Skills:
- Someone who is sympathetic to the Christian faith and happy to work alongside the minister in that area, or help children explore faith through song themselves.
- The musical ability to teach songs to children
- The ability to find and/or produce the resources needed for the choir to run
- Willingness to participate in our All-Age service once a month, on a Sunday morning
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work without instruction
- As this is a new project, being responsive and ready to make changes as we go if needed
Desirable Qualities and Skills:
- Previous experience of working with children’s choirs
- An understanding of estates
- Experience of working with volunteers
- Basic IT skills and knowledge of social media
- Excellent organisational skills
Essential Knowledge
- An understanding of the world of children and families
- A knowledge of music performance and copyright rules
- Knowledge of Safeguarding requirements and willingness to work within the Safeguarding Policy of All Hallows Church, Ipswich
This post comes at an exciting time in the life of All Hallows Church; we are seeing growth in the church and deeper connections with the community. This project is part of our commitment to the children and families in our parish, reaching out with the good news of Jesus and bringing music into people’s lives. Having come from a choral tradition in the past, now mostly gone, we are looking forward to seeing where God will lead us on this new musical path.
This post is for 1 day a week (flexible working will be needed) for a period of 2 years, with the possibility of extending. Enhanced DBS required before appointment can be confirmed.
